Senior Engineering Manager – AI

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential enterprise SaaS organization seeking a Senior Engineering Manager - AI to join their London team. Our client is building next-generation AI capabilities and needs a hands-on leader who can both manage talented engineers and personally contribute to complex technical problems.

This role sits at the intersection of leadership and execution—you'll guide a team while remaining deeply involved in the technical work of building conversational AI, generative AI, and agentic AI systems for enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5-8 AI engineers, building a culture of technical excellence and consistent delivery
• Drive end-to-end execution of conversational AI features enabling natural language interaction with complex data models
• Oversee development of agentic AI systems capable of autonomous data analysis, insight generation, and workflow automation
• Own the team's delivery roadmap, collaborating with product management to prioritize features and navigate technical trade-offs
• Establish engineering best practices for AI development including testing strategies, evaluation frameworks, and deployment patterns
• Lead sprint planning, technical design reviews, and retrospectives to maintain delivery velocity and quality standards
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for AI applications with automated testing and prompt regression suites
• Partner with platform and architecture teams to ensure seamless integration with core infrastructure
• Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions effectively to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Substantial software engineering experience combined with proven leadership of engineering teams
• Strong hands-on experience building and deploying AI applications in production environments
• Deep knowledge of LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and conversational AI design patterns
• Experience with agentic frameworks and autonomous agent architectures
• Proficiency in Python and modern software development practices (testing, code review, CI/CD)
• Proven track record delivering complex technical projects on time with high quality
• Strong project management skills with Agile/Scrum methodology experience
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build cohesive, productive teams

Desirable:

• Experience leading teams in fast-growing startups or enterprise software companies
• Knowledge of financial planning, analytics, or business intelligence domains
• Experience with RAG systems, vector databases, and semantic search technologies
• Familiarity with model fine-tuning, evaluation, and continuous improvement workflows
• Background in distributed systems, microservices, or cloud-native architectures
