Senior Legal Counsel – Major Projects and Construction (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential renewable energy organization in their search for a Senior Legal Counsel specializing in major projects and construction matters. This role is based in Karlsruhe and offers both full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time arrangements (minimum 32 hours per week).

Responsibilities

Construction & Procurement Contracts:

• Draft, review, and negotiate project agreements including EPCM, EPC, design-and-construct, framework agreements, consultancy contracts, and other commercial arrangements
• Advise on contractual rights, obligations, claims prevention, and risk mitigation strategies
• Support sourcing, tendering, and contracting activities with contractors, suppliers, and strategic partners
• Drive contractual consistency across projects and contribute to standard contract development
• Participate in project governance and risk reviews

Project Development:

• Provide business-oriented legal support across the full project lifecycle from origination through construction and operations
• Support land acquisition activities, permitting processes, and regulatory approvals
• Advise on contract structures, commercial arrangements, and risk allocation strategies
• Engage with governmental authorities, landowners, contractors, strategic partners, and other key stakeholders

Operations:

• Collaborate with supply chain teams to develop and implement contracting strategies supporting operational activities
• Draft, review, and negotiate maintenance, service, works, hire, and other operational agreements
• Provide guidance on operational contract management and commercial relationships
• Support business stakeholders in managing contractual risks throughout operational phases

Claims Management:

• Lead legal management of claims arising from construction, procurement, and commercial contracts
• Assess contractual entitlements, liabilities, and potential exposure while developing claims strategies with cross-functional teams
• Prepare and review notices, claims submissions, responses, and supporting documentation
• Coordinate external legal counsel and technical experts in litigation, arbitration, adjudication, and settlement negotiations

What We're Looking For

• 5-10 years of post-qualification experience gained in a leading law firm and/or multinational in-house legal team
• At least satisfactory results in both German State Examinations
• Extensive experience advising on project development, construction law, procurement matters, and complex commercial contract negotiation
• Background supporting large-scale projects in renewable energy, industrial, chemicals, utilities, mining, or comparable industries
• Knowledge of project delivery and construction frameworks including VOB/B, FIDIC, permitting processes, regulatory requirements, and public law matters
• Experience managing contractual claims, disputes, and risk-related matters throughout the project lifecycle
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions
• Strong commercial judgment, pragmatic problem-solving approach, and confidence engaging with senior leadership and project executives
• Highly organized, resilient, and adaptable with integrity and discretion
• Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken
