About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics technology organization seeking a Software Engineer - Roboticist for an on-site position in Munich. Our client is developing advanced automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems and requires an engineer who can work across the full robotics development lifecycle—from simulation and navigation to hands-on testing with physical robots in the field.

This role requires on-site presence in Munich three days per week from the start, with occasional 1-2 week deployment periods. You'll work directly with the client's fleet manager and contribute to building a complete robotics stack covering navigation, localization, behaviors, and internal tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a full robotics stack including simulation, navigation, localization, robot behaviors, and internal tooling
  • Perform on-site testing and tuning of complex navigation systems directly on AGVs
  • Collaborate with the fleet manager on the robot's perception stack development
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, networking, and embedded electronics issues on robots in real time
  • Design and implement solutions for challenging customer and R&D problems
  • Travel for on-site deployments when required (1-2 week periods)
  • Potential to grow into a team management role as the project scales
  • Mentor team members and contribute to the technical community

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • Located in or willing to work on-site in Munich (3 days per week minimum)
  • 4+ years of experience with ROS or ROS2
  • 5+ years of experience coding in modern C++ (17+) and Python 3
  • Working knowledge of networking and electronics
  • Experience with Docker and containerized applications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or related field
  • Hands-on experience working with real robots, not just simulation
  • Ability to independently tackle mid-sized software development tasks across the stack
  • Strong technical English skills, both spoken and written
  • Comfortable in technical discussions and proposing solutions

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with robotics simulation platforms (Gazebo, NVIDIA Omniverse, or similar)
  • System administration experience
  • Contributions to open source projects
  • Active participation in robotics or technical communities, or public speaking experience
  • Spanish language proficiency
