We are representing a confidential cybersecurity SaaS organization based in Australia that is experiencing significant growth following recent funding. Our client is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to take ownership of their internal technology platform and drive strategic automation initiatives.

This is a platform engineering role focused on building and optimizing the IT infrastructure that enables secure, efficient work across the organization. You'll own identity systems, endpoint management, and SaaS platforms while eliminating manual operational tasks through automation. This role combines hands-on technical ownership with strategic thinking—if you see the same manual task three times and immediately design an automated solution to permanently remove it, you'll thrive here.

Responsibilities

• Platform & Identity Operations: Drive end-to-end ownership of Google Workspace, Okta, and enterprise MDM (Kandji/Jamf) for macOS and ChromeOS fleets. Architect SSO/SAML integrations, optimize SCIM provisioning, design scalable role hierarchies, and establish proactive OS lifecycle and patching strategies.
• Lifecycle Process Optimization: Optimize global joiner-mover-leaver processes by automating manual steps and tightening handoffs with People teams. Maintain accurate asset records and endpoint compliance reporting while administering the SaaS estate.
• Zero Trust & Secure Access: Take operational ownership of Cloudflare Zero Trust environment including ZTNA, Secure Web Gateway, DNS filtering, secure tunnels, and identity-aware access policies. Tune policies and troubleshoot complex edge access issues. Own migration of internal applications off legacy network access.
• Automation & Internal Tooling: Build production-grade tooling using REST APIs, Python, Apps Script, and n8n to permanently eliminate manual work. Proactively identify automation opportunities based on operational patterns.
• Service Operations: Take incident command for platform incidents on rotation. Coordinate response, communicate with stakeholders, drive resolution, write postmortems, and ensure action items are closed. Execute changes through formal change processes including risk assessment and rollback planning.
• Reliability Engineering: Own zero-touch provisioning, endpoint compliance enforcement, and fleet health monitoring. Build self-service options and self-healing behaviors that reduce routine requests.
• Embedded Security: Implement and maintain endpoint hardening and baseline configurations. Act as technical responder on security incidents and support audit and compliance evidence gathering. Design security into platform changes proactively.
• Knowledge Sharing: Mentor colleagues on platforms and tools. Maintain accurate runbooks, knowledge base entries, and service catalogue documentation.

What We're Looking For

• SaaS & Identity Administration: Several years administering Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 alongside enterprise IdP (Okta, Entra) and MDM at organizational scale. Deep experience with SSO, SAML, SCIM, DNS, and certificate configuration and troubleshooting.
• Zero Trust Experience: Direct hands-on experience configuring and optimizing ZTNA, Secure Web Gateways, or modern edge access controls (Cloudflare Zero Trust, Zscaler, Netskope, Tailscale, or similar). Capability to take operational ownership and troubleshoot complex edge access issues.
• Automation Skills: Production-grade scripting or coding experience (Python, Apps Script, Terraform) integrated against REST APIs. Demonstrated ability to build internal tools that permanently eliminate operational work.
• Fleet Management: Experience managing macOS at scale, building zero-touch deployment workflows, and enforcing endpoint compliance baselines.
• Process Improvement: Track record of optimizing cross-functional processes (such as joiner-mover-leaver workflows) and measurably reducing manual steps.
• Operational Discipline: Experience running incidents, working within change management processes, and authoring technical documentation that teams depend on.
• Security Fundamentals: Knowledge of endpoint hardening, identity security, and network access controls with judgment to make proportionate risk recommendations.
• Problem Elimination Mindset: Demonstrated ability to eliminate entire classes of problems rather than just resolving individual tickets.
• Independent Judgment: Capability to maintain operations independently and discernment about which decisions require escalation.
