Chief Operating Officer / COO (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a dynamic professional services organization in München seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead operational excellence and scalability. In this role, you will report directly to the Managing Partner and own the strategic direction of all non-client-facing functions.

You will be responsible for:

• Developing and advancing operational management structures across controlling, quality management, risk, resource planning, and core processes
• Leading Finance & Controlling functions, utilizing KPIs, forecasts, and reports to drive strategic decision-making
• Establishing robust project pipeline, capacity planning, and resource allocation frameworks to ensure optimal utilization
• Creating clear governance rhythms, KPI review cycles, and decision-making processes with accountability for execution
• Overseeing back-office operations, administration, and facility management
• Providing leadership to HR and Marketing teams, supporting department heads in professionalizing their functions
• Collaborating closely with the Chief Digital & AI Officer to design modern, digital processes, owning requirements, standards, rollout, and organizational adoption
• Ensuring clear ownership, seamless cross-functional interfaces, and process discipline without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
• Partnering with senior leadership to translate strategic objectives into actionable operational decisions

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a seasoned operator with substantial leadership experience from professional services, consulting, audit, or similar partner-led environments. You should have hands-on experience building or significantly evolving operational systems, not just maintaining them.

Key qualifications include:

• Strong commercial and financial acumen with proven ability to lead controlling, reporting, and enterprise management functions
• Track record of scaling organizations professionally and creating structures that function effectively as complexity increases
• Hands-on expertise in process design, comfort working with data, systems, and automation, viewing digitalization as integral to operational excellence
• Ability to work effectively with confident partners and leaders as peers, articulate clear positions, and drive decisions to completion
• Leadership style characterized by clarity and pragmatism: high standards in execution, respectful and reliable in relationships
• Entrepreneurial, independent, and solution-oriented approach requiring minimal oversight
• Professional credentials such as CPA or equivalent certifications are not required; what matters is your operational expertise and ability to advance a sophisticated professional services organization structurally and operationally
