Linguist – German – Remote

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential language technology organization that is building a global pool of talented German linguists. Our client works at the intersection of translation and AI, developing solutions that help break down language barriers across industries including life sciences, IT, marketing, legal, and finance.

This is a remote, independent contractor role based in Germany. You'll work on your own schedule, taking on projects as they become available. This position is ideal as supplemental income rather than a primary role, as project volume fluctuates with client demand.

Responsibilities

• Translate content between English and German while preserving cultural nuance and clarity
• Edit and refine language content for accuracy, tone, and contextual relevance across digital platforms
• Apply current language standards, usage trends, and best practices to all deliverables
• Evaluate and provide structured feedback to improve language model quality
• Collaborate with production teams to localize content for German-speaking markets
• Support content development, localization, and quality assurance for digital applications
• When required, creatively adapt text through transcreation to ensure natural reading in the target language

What We're Looking For

• Native-level proficiency in German
• A graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, or language studies, OR
• A graduate qualification in another field plus 2 years of full-time professional translation experience, OR
• 5 years of full-time professional translation experience
• Ability to follow terminology and reference materials precisely
• Reliable availability with ability to commit to accepted tasks (most require minimum 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week)
• Strong time management skills for on-time delivery

Important considerations: As a 1099 contractor, you will not receive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions. Hours are not guaranteed. You are responsible for your own tax obligations.
