Forward Deployed Engineer, DACH

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential global connectivity platform in their search for a Forward Deployed Engineer based in Munich. This is a field engineering role where you'll embed directly with enterprise customers across the DACH region to architect and deliver production systems at scale.

In this position, you will:

• Embed with enterprise customers to understand their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges firsthand
• Build and deploy custom implementations including AI Voice Assistants, real-time communications APIs, and WebRTC solutions
• Deploy and operate LLM gateways in customer environments with unified interfaces across self-hosted and hosted providers, including routing, load balancing, retries, fallbacks, and rate limiting
• Run open-weight LLMs through provided inference APIs or deploy self-hosted stacks when air-gapped or sovereign-cloud requirements demand it
• Instrument production observability for everything you ship—metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or customer-specific stacks
• Design model routing strategies for real-time voice workloads, balancing latency, cost, and quality with appropriate fallback behavior
• Adapt models to customer domains with prompt and RAG pipelines for German-language use cases and DACH-specific regulatory environments
• Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches from whiteboard to go-live, owning customer outcomes until solutions are live and stable
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues alongside customer engineering teams
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to shape roadmap based on field insights from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
• Create clear technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable solutions for handoff

You'll work in a pod model alongside a dedicated Enterprise Account Executive—not as a demo resource, but as a technical partner who owns discovery, architecture, POC, and production go-live while your commercial partner owns the named-account list and executive relationships.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• CS degree or equivalent experience
• 3+ years building and shipping production software that real users depended on, with on-call experience and production debugging
• Proficiency in multiple languages: Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go
• Practical understanding of what breaks in front of a model in production: provider rate limits, timeout and retry behavior, streaming, token accounting, and concurrency failure modes
• Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes with secrets management, configuration, and upgrade workflows
• Production observability experience—Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Graylog, ELK, or equivalent—with understanding of what to monitor and alert on
• High-concurrency experience with Kafka, message queues, or event streams at scale, including handling consumer lag, backpressure, and partition management
• Experience building APIs from scratch with OpenAPI spec, REST/GraphQL design, auth, rate limiting, versioning, and idempotency
• Event-driven thinking and cloud-native instincts
• Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice/messaging systems
• Self-sufficient engineering approach—able to read code and documentation, ask customers directly, and make sound judgment calls independently
• Customer-facing engineering experience with ability to run technical discovery and present to executives
• Strong troubleshooting skills to translate vague issues into root cause
• Comfortable working on customer sites and in high-stakes technical conversations
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and German for whiteboard sessions, live troubleshooting, and escalations
• Based in Munich or willing to relocate for this hybrid role with travel across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
• Legal authorization to work in Germany or eligibility for sponsorship

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with AI voice assistants, STT/TTS, or LLM-based conversational systems
• Building evaluation sets for specific domains
• Production experience with LLM gateways including config-driven model definitions, routing rules, and virtual key management
• Familiarity with open-weight model landscape and trade-offs between regional and multilingual models, including EU sovereign AI initiatives
• Experience with inference serving engines like vLLM, SGLang, or TGI, and sizing GPU capacity for self-hosted models
• SQL proficiency with Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle
• ETL and data wrangling experience
• CI/CD pipeline design and automation
• Background in telecom, CPaaS, or high-growth SaaS
• Experience with sovereign or on-prem cloud deployments and DACH regulatory frameworks including GDPR, EU AI Act, and German data sovereignty requirements
• Security mindset covering IAM, encryption, and audit logging
