Product Integration Engineer, Defence

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defence technology client in their search for a Product Integration Engineer to join their core R&D team in Bath. This role centers on developing and proving out advanced head-mounted display systems with military customers in real-world field conditions. You'll own customer integrations end to end, working directly with British Army equipment and defence primes to make cutting-edge visual intelligence systems work on specific platforms—not just on a bench, but where the tech meets the user.

Responsibilities

• Own customer integrations from prototype to field deployment, adapting software and hardware to work within customer platforms including sensors, displays, video feeds and connectivity systems
• Represent the organization at demos, trials and military exercises with defence clients, supporting on-site deployments and gathering real-world user feedback
• Build rapid prototypes in dedicated environments to prove value with clients before integration reaches the shared codebase
• Bridge field requirements and core R&D by translating customer needs into concrete integration work, identifying capabilities that should become shared product features
• Participate in software standups and reviews as an integrated member of the R&D team
• Travel within the UK as needed for customer engagements, with occasional international travel

What We're Looking For

• At least two years of software engineering experience with VR or XR technologies, with generalist problem-solving instincts
• Hands-on self-starter who takes ownership and works things out when documentation is incomplete
• Comfort across mixed software stacks; experience with some combination of C++, Unity and embedded systems, with ability to learn quickly
• Some exposure to electrical integration or software-to-hardware interfaces (deep hardware experience not required)
• Experience with prototype and integration work involving incomplete documentation, customer-specific stacks and messy interfaces
• Strong client-facing skills and comfort representing the organization at demos or trials
• Willingness to travel within the UK regularly
• Based within commuting distance of Bath with ability to work in-office two to three days per week

Bonus qualifications: Experience with HMDs, wearable displays or spatial computing; C++ for integration and application development; ability to build UI or application stacks for quick prototypes; familiarity with embedded or Linux systems at integration level; exposure to sensor, display and video interfaces at system level.
