Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential sports technology organization seeking a Software Engineer to join their London-based team. Our client is building scalable, user-focused software systems and needs an engineer who can work independently on well-defined features while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain small to medium-sized systems or features with a focus on quality, reliability and user impact
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to understand requirements and develop practical technical solutions
• Communicate clearly about progress, assumptions, blockers and technical trade-offs
• Contribute to technical design discussions and reviews
• Write clear, maintainable and well-tested code that follows team standards
• Work within established architecture patterns while identifying improvements to existing systems
• Debug and resolve issues across the stack, investigating root causes and seeking support when needed
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and incorporating feedback into your own work
• Identify opportunities to improve code quality, performance, and team development practices
• Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted tools, while remaining accountable for reviewing and validating results

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Experience developing and maintaining software in a professional or comparable environment
• Proficiency in at least one programming language and familiarity with modern development frameworks and tools
• Understanding of software development fundamentals including data structures, APIs, testing, and version control
• Ability to work independently on defined tasks while seeking input when needed
• Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teammates and incorporating feedback
• Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn and iterate

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience contributing to technical designs and documenting technical decisions
• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration
• Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve coding, debugging, documentation and testing workflows
• Practical experience debugging production issues and improving system performance
• Exposure to agile or iterative development environments
• Experience writing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelines
• Interest in sharing knowledge and supporting teammates
• Experience with technologies such as Rust, Kotlin, Spring Boot, TypeScript, NextJS, PostgreSQL, Pulsar, Temporal and Kubernetes

Location: London. This is an office-first role requiring 3-4 days per week in the office.
