Mission Operations Specialist – UK

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential maritime technology organization in Portsmouth, UK. We're seeking a Mission Operations Specialist to coordinate project delivery, support autonomous vessel operations, and serve as a critical liaison between technical teams and government stakeholders. This position requires up to 80% travel and offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge maritime systems and mission-critical operations.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Drive product-supporting programs toward defined goals and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish objectives and deliverables
• Monitor project progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective measures to ensure deadline adherence
• Develop comprehensive mission plans considering route optimization, environmental conditions, and risk mitigation strategies
• Operate and monitor autonomous surface vessel operations during missions, tracking vessel performance, sensor data, and mission progress in real time
• Troubleshoot technical issues and implement contingency plans to maintain mission continuity
• Collect, analyze, and interpret mission data to generate actionable insights and comprehensive reports for stakeholders
• Conduct training sessions for government personnel on vessel operation, mission planning, and maintenance procedures
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, government policies, and industry standards related to autonomous vessel operations
• Provide technical guidance and career development support to team members

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated success in project coordination and leadership
• Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Proven problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to challenges
• Leadership qualities including ability to motivate and inspire team members
• Ability to hold UK security clearance
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom
• Willingness to travel up to 80%

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, maritime studies, or equivalent military experience
• Experience in maritime operations, particularly with autonomous or unmanned systems
• Proficiency in mission planning software, GIS tools, and maritime navigation systems
• Prior experience working with government clients
• Strong analytical skills with ability to make quick decisions under pressure

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, or stooping
• Manual dexterity to operate computer equipment
• Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally
