About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client in London who is transforming how consumer lending works in the UK market. Our client uses advanced technology and comprehensive financial data to make more informed, fairer lending decisions. They've demonstrated exceptional credit performance and reached profitability rapidly, backed by major financial institutions.

We're seeking an experienced Underwriter to join their growing team of 25+ professionals. This is a Monday-Friday position with occasional Saturday coverage (once monthly) and 2 bank holidays annually, returned as lieu time or overtime. The role offers hybrid working with 3 days per week in the London office.

Responsibilities

• Assess unsecured credit applications using Open Banking data and credit reference information to evaluate creditworthiness and support responsible lending decisions
• Conduct fraud prevention and AML checks in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements
• Apply underwriting policies consistently and accurately across all decisions
• Manage your own underwriting pipeline, prioritising effectively to meet turnaround targets
• Liaise directly with customers to obtain and verify information where required
• Contribute to ongoing development and improvement of underwriting processes and procedures
• Work independently while proactively building knowledge and skills over time

What We're Looking For

Essential requirements:

• Minimum 2 years proven underwriting experience, ideally in unsecured lending
• Strong understanding of fraud, AML, and customer vulnerability indicators
• Keen eye for emerging risk trends
• High attention to detail and confidence making sound judgment calls under time pressure
• Solid IT and numerical skills
• Clear written English and effective verbal communication abilities
• Highly organised with strong pipeline management, time-management, and prioritisation skills
• Collaborative approach - willing to support colleagues and contribute beyond immediate remit

Desirable experience:

• Underwriting using Open Banking/transaction data rather than credit file data alone
• Familiarity with FCA Consumer Duty and responsible lending requirements
