Principal Software Developer (f/m/d) – Market Data

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential financial technology organization seeking a Principal Software Developer to join their Market Data team in Frankfurt am Main. This role sits at the intersection of business operations and technical infrastructure, focusing on high-performance data processing solutions that serve institutional clients globally.

Our client operates in the index solutions space, requiring exceptional standards for accuracy, performance, and availability. You'll tackle real-world engineering challenges around data management, resilience, and fail-over strategies while working with emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement challenging projects to develop data processing pipelines
• Build and maintain a unified data landscape serving as the single source of truth for all relevant data
• Engineer ETL processes for multi-asset class data streams
• Develop high-performance APIs and streaming solutions for clients and data vendors
• Serve as an in-house consultant for best practices in data tracking, storage, and access patterns
• Collaborate closely with business analysts and data engineers to define scalable solutions
• Mentor development team members on technical architecture and implementation

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of software development or data engineering experience
• 5+ years of in-depth Python development experience
• Strong understanding of microservice architectures, design patterns, and SOLID principles (especially Liskov's Substitution Principle)
• Hands-on experience with at least one SQL/NoSQL database (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL), including schema design and ORM frameworks like SQLAlchemy, JPA, or Hibernate
• Cloud-native development experience, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipeline definition, deployment validation, and monitoring
• Ability to define Docker images following Twelve-Factor App methodology
• Command-line Git proficiency with version-control best practices (Gitflow, trunk-based development)
• Strong technical mentoring capabilities
• Full professional proficiency in English
• Excellent communication skills—ability to explain technical concepts to both business stakeholders and developers
• Bonus: Ability to model business domains using mathematical structures

Pay
