Medical Malpractice Claims Specialist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare insurance organization seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice Claims Specialist to join their Region II team. This is a remote or hybrid opportunity for candidates located in Michigan, Indiana, or Illinois.

In this role, you will independently manage medical malpractice claims, working directly with physician members to achieve favorable resolutions. You'll serve as a trusted advisor throughout the claims lifecycle, from initial coverage analysis through trial.

Responsibilities

• Complete initial coverage analysis on new claims
• Develop action plans for assigned cases in conjunction with defense counsel and leadership
• Interview insured members within established guidelines and performance standards
• Consult with insureds, claimants, defense attorneys, and plaintiff attorneys to optimize investigation and discovery processes
• Interface with insured members to provide ongoing support and keep them fully informed throughout the claims process
• Recommend assignment of litigated matters to appropriate defense panel members
• Partner with defense counsel to achieve optimal outcomes on all assigned cases
• Monitor and approve fees and expenses within delegated authority
• Evaluate facts, allegations, liability, and damages; maintain appropriate case reserves
• Recommend resolution strategies to regional leadership based on investigation and discovery findings
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials as necessary
• Provide risk/benefit analysis to members and support them throughout the life of the claim, including trial

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• Juris Doctorate preferred
• Three to five (3-5) years of medical malpractice or equivalent claims-related experience
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex liability and damages issues
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
• Experience working with defense counsel and managing litigation processes
• Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to physician members
• Remote work capability with potential hybrid arrangement based on location

Pay

Our client offers competitive compensation in the range of $88,710 - $119,715, with consideration for specialized skills, depth of knowledge, and educational background. Geographic differentials may apply for higher-cost labor markets.
