Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential digital identity technology firm seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join their product engineering team in London. In this leadership role, you will guide a global engineering team building a multi-component platform using TypeScript, Node.js, and React.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Leading engineering teams to develop secure, well-tested, and performant features primarily using TypeScript with Node.js and React
• Analyzing and interpreting highly complex technical problems and converting them into actionable tasks for your team
• Collaborating with Product Management, UX, and other stakeholders to maintain high quality standards in a fast-paced, iterative environment
• Building product and technology roadmaps alongside peers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders
• Advocating for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
• Guiding the team in solving technical problems with large scope and complexity
• Maintaining and championing coding standards, best practices, and architectural patterns for high-scale systems
• Owning delivery of complex features and improvements while collaborating across cross-functional teams
• Coaching and mentoring engineers to achieve their next level of career and professional growth
• Creating a diverse, collaborative, transparent culture where everyone's contributions are valued

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a hands-on technical leader with:

• Proven track record leading engineering teams to deliver production-quality products in fast-paced, global environments
• Strong leadership skills in setting vision, fostering autonomy, mentoring, and driving collaboration across distributed teams
• Experience leading teams to deliver products according to industry standards, with excellent technical writing skills and ability to guide complex system deployments
• Hands-on technical leadership with strong coding skills and pragmatic approach to balancing direct contribution with strategic delegation
• Deep experience diagnosing and preventing performance and optimization issues, with passion for scaling knowledge through mentorship
• Champion of clean architecture, CI/CD, testing best practices, and coding standards
• Solid background in cloud-native environments (AWS serverless preferred), microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Proficiency in design patterns and architectural documentation (C4 Model, ADRs)
• Experience building developer tools such as CLIs, SDKs, and developer portals
• Extensive experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and React; familiarity with Rust, Dart, or Go is a plus
• Hands-on expertise with REST APIs, Test-Driven Development, and commitment to privacy by design, security, and high-performance systems
