Systems Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential engineering technology organisation based in Reading, Berkshire. Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the selection, implementation, and ongoing ownership of business-critical systems across production, quality, procurement, and logistics operations.

This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week on-site in Reading. You will report to the Procurement Manager and serve as the internal owner of the ERP programme, establishing a single system of record for stock, BOMs, builds, and serial-level traceability as the business scales.

Responsibilities

• Own the ERP replacement programme end to end, including requirements gathering, vendor selection support, configuration, data migration, testing, go-live, and post-go-live stabilisation
• Map current business processes across goods-in, stores, build, test, despatch, and returns; define target process and data models and maintain requirements discipline throughout implementation
• Manage purchasing, supplier, and item-master data for the Procurement function; own integrations and data flows between ERP, finance, CRM, and support systems including RMA workflows
• Implement serial-level traceability to enable component and build history queries for containment, warranty, and field-failure investigation
• Own engineering change control and quality records under ISO 9001 standards
• Build and maintain production reporting dashboards covering yield, scrap, rework, throughput, stock accuracy, and on-time despatch metrics
• Identify and deliver process automation and system improvement opportunities to eliminate manual re-keying, paper records, and offline spreadsheets as production volumes increase

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Demonstrable experience implementing or migrating an ERP or MRP system in a manufacturing environment, ideally as the internal owner rather than an external consultant
• Strong understanding of manufacturing data structures including item masters, BOMs, routings, work orders, serialisation, and lot control
• Data migration experience encompassing extraction, cleansing, mapping, and reconciliation
• Advanced Excel skills; SQL, Power BI, or equivalent reporting tools desirable
• Right to work in the UK without sponsorship

Key Experience & Skills:

• Requirements gathering and process mapping capability with strong documentation discipline
• Experience with systems integration and API-based data flows
• Understanding of ISO 9001 documented information and traceability requirements; exposure to NCR, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes
• Proven track record of identifying and delivering practical process improvements with measurable benefits
• Self-directed and comfortable owning a programme with senior sponsorship but limited internal precedent
• Scripting or automation capability (Python, Power Automate, or similar) desirable
