About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential technology scale-up in London that is building out a new Developer Experience team. This is a pivotal moment to join an organization that has recently deployed a modern container platform and is now focused on creating world-class developer tooling, observability, and platform capabilities.
Our client is looking for a Senior Developer Experience Platform Engineer who will help product teams ship faster with confidence by building opinionated, self-service infrastructure and reducing operational toil across the engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve AWS environments and shared platform infrastructure, prioritizing reliability, scalability, and developer experience
- Design and build self-service tooling that enables engineers to build, deploy, and operate services with minimal friction
- Automate common workflows and standardize infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code and platform abstractions to reduce manual toil
- Define and implement platform-level monitoring and alerting standards that deliver actionable signals without creating noise
- Enable product teams to leverage shared metrics and observability to improve service reliability across all environments
- Own and evolve continuous delivery and release capabilities, reducing time to production while maintaining safety and reliability
- Stay current with best practices in application hosting, continuous delivery, and developer experience, applying them pragmatically
- Upskill and mentor other engineers within the team
- Participate in a shared, out-of-hours on-call rotation after onboarding (supported by the wider engineering team)
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record of owning and operating web platforms in production at scale
- Strong production experience with AWS
- Experience defining meaningful metrics, monitoring, and alerting for web platforms with strong intuition for actionable versus noisy signals
- Experience with platform-level security controls and observability, including identifying and responding to abnormal system behavior
- Experience designing and operating continuous delivery systems that enable safe, repeatable, zero-downtime deployments
- Experience responding to production incidents in an on-call environment and driving systematic improvements
- Comfortable with command-line tools and environments
- Proficient with at least one programming language used for automation or tooling
- Enjoy solving complex, cross-cutting problems in collaboration with engineers across the organization
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements and priorities
- Enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge within the team and wider engineering organization
As a senior engineer, you are expected to bring prior experience operating production platforms at scale, use your judgment to make trade-offs, anticipate failure modes, and help the team avoid repeating past mistakes. You should be comfortable operating independently after onboarding while sharing lessons from real-world experience.
