Engineering Manager – Java

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a talented Java development team in Paris. In this role, you will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, driving both engineering excellence and team growth.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of user stories, conducting thorough code reviews, and actively contributing to design, development, testing, and production deployments
• Developing technical roadmaps in collaboration with R&D teams and aligning priorities across multiple engineering leads
• Partnering with product and design teams to deliver commitments with high velocity and quality
• Managing and mentoring a team of 4-5 developers through one-on-ones, performance reviews, and continuous coaching
• Ensuring successful onboarding of new team members and identifying opportunities to nurture existing talent
• Establishing and maintaining best practices in clean code, testing, and pair programming
• Stepping in to resolve technical blockers, make critical arbitration decisions, and ensure the team meets its delivery commitments
• Fostering team cohesion and motivation across distributed locations
• Participating in the adoption of AI technologies within products and internal engineering practices

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 5 years of Java development experience with recent versions of the language
• Minimum 2 years in a team lead or similar management role, with proven experience mentoring developers
• Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with people management responsibilities
• Track record of successfully delivering complex projects in microservices environments
• Professional proficiency in English

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in Java (recent versions) and the Spring Framework
• Experience with SQL databases
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and microservices architecture
• Deep understanding of clean code principles and engineering best practices

• Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration capabilities
• Ability to coordinate delivery across multiple teams and stakeholders

Location: Paris office with one day of remote work per week
