Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS client seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform to join their growing engineering organization. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable batch and streaming data pipelines that power mission-critical analytics. You'll take true end-to-end ownership of complex data systems, architect enterprise cloud data platforms, and mentor junior engineers while leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools.

This is a remote position within the United States, with candidates required to reside in one of the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, or WA.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, testing, and maintenance of scalable Python code for data ingestion, transformation, and processing across streaming and batch architectures
• Design and optimize data models and transformation logic that support advanced analytics and evolving BI needs, with built-in data quality and performance
• Build and tune high-performance ETL/ELT workflows using AWS DMS, Kinesis, and related data integration technologies
• Diagnose and resolve pipeline issues, implementing preventative measures that guarantee data integrity and reliability
• Mentor junior engineers and establish documentation standards for code, models, and processes to enable knowledge transfer and best practices
• Drive CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code best practices across the data platform team

What We're Looking For

• Data Engineering Mastery: Extensive experience in data engineering with demonstrated expertise in designing, conducting rigorous code reviews, and managing complex, large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines
• Cloud Data Platforms: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with enterprise-grade cloud data platforms such as Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake, including their architectural nuances and performance optimization strategies
• Advanced Programming: Expert-level skills in Python and SQL (including advanced optimization techniques in MySQL, Postgres, and SQL Server), coupled with extensive experience with AWS services including DMS, S3, Airflow, Kinesis, DocumentDB, CloudWatch, Kubernetes, and Glue
• CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code: Proven ability to establish and maintain robust version control workflows, architect and implement sophisticated CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure, and strong advocacy for infrastructure-as-code principles
• AI-Assisted Development: Practical experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate delivery, with the judgment to review, test, and own the output
• Ownership Mindset: You take full responsibility for your work and pursue problems to resolution regardless of where the root cause lies, never compromising on quality while continuously seeking improvements to performance, scalability, and efficiency
