About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential legal technology startup in Paris that is transforming how litigation professionals work with AI. Our client has live users, active revenue, and backing from a premier European startup studio. They need a founding-level AI engineer to build production systems that help legal teams work significantly faster.
This is a ground-floor opportunity to work directly with the founding CTO on agentic workflows, document intelligence, and production AI systems used daily by law firms and corporate legal departments.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship AI-powered features used directly by legal professionals in production environments
- Build agentic workflows incorporating memory, sandboxes, code execution, tools, and subagents
- Extract, structure, and reason over large volumes of unstructured legal documents
- Create robust data and document-processing pipelines that handle complex legal materials
- Evaluate and improve agent outcomes through systematic testing and iteration
- Optimize AI systems for quality, latency, and cost at scale
- Build backend services and infrastructure to run AI reliably in production
- Work directly with founders and users to understand real-world problems and ship solutions rapidly
- Take full ownership of projects from exploration through deployment
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of software or AI engineering experience with production systems
- Strong software engineering foundation, ideally with TypeScript and Node.js
- Hands-on experience with AI agents and/or evaluation frameworks (Mastra, Pydantic, Langchain, or similar)
- Proven ability to take AI problems from experimentation to production
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to solve problems with no clear solutions
- Strong product mindset with genuine care about user impact
- Autonomous working style and pragmatic decision-making approach
- Ability to make sound technical trade-offs and design robust systems
Technical environment: TypeScript, Node.js, React, tRPC, AWS, Terraform, PostgreSQL, Mastra, Bedrock. You don't need to know every tool—what matters is your ability to learn quickly and build production-ready systems.
Location: Paris, France (on-site with the founding team)
