Software Engineer (Founding Team)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential eyewear technology client in Berlin who is building the foundational platform for subscription-based eyewear services across Europe. This is a founding team position working directly with the CTO as the first full-time engineer on a product that launches to market in October.

Our client has secured funding and is positioned for sustainable, profitable growth. The platform is built, the first major customer is going live, and expansion into additional European markets is planned for next year. You'll join at the ground floor with significant technical ownership and the opportunity to shape both the product and the engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Own production readiness and ongoing development of the live platform alongside the CTO
• Take full ownership of entire platform modules and drive them forward independently
• Participate in core technical decisions including architecture, stack choices, and deployment strategies
• Work directly with optical retail clients to understand their needs and build solutions based on real user feedback
• Help define AI-first engineering practices for development, testing, and delivery
• Build end-to-end features from backend through frontend without waiting on other team members

What We're Looking For

• Two to four years of software engineering experience with a backend focus
• Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot
• Cloud experience including deployment and production operations (AWS preferred)
• React and TypeScript skills sufficient to ship features end-to-end
• German language proficiency at B2 level or higher for direct client interaction
• Bias toward action: you prefer to decide quickly and iterate rather than over-discuss
• High standards for code quality combined with pragmatic delivery
• Low ego and strong collaborative instincts
• Experience with authentication, payment integrations, or inventory management systems is a plus

Technical Environment: Kotlin/Java with Spring Boot, React with TypeScript, AWS with RDS, GitHub Actions, plus integrations for auth, payments, and retail inventory systems.

Compensation

The client offers €55,000 to €70,000 annually based on qualifications and experience, with potential equity participation through their VSOP program depending on profile and seniority. Additional benefits include 30 vacation days, Apple hardware, fitness membership, and other perks.
