Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Head of IT to lead their technical operations. In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage a tech team of approximately 8 professionals across development, data, and infrastructure—including 1:1s, goal setting, career development, and recruiting.
  • Take ownership of day-to-day technical operations: prioritization, resource planning, escalations, and decision-making currently handled at the executive level.
  • Drive delivery of the technical roadmap across product, data, software, and infrastructure—ensuring committed timelines are met.
  • Establish clear, repeatable processes for planning, development, testing, and releases that create predictable delivery capacity visible across the organization.
  • Build a reliable data foundation: bring metrics around leads, appointments, and orders into a trusted format for sales, marketing, and leadership.
  • Own platform stability, security, and scalability—including monitoring, incident management, backups, access controls, and GDPR compliance.
  • Stay technically engaged: evaluate architecture decisions, participate in code reviews, and maintain the ability to dive into code when needed.
  • Actively manage technical debt: make it visible, assess it economically, and negotiate with business units on prioritization and resolution.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for business teams, translating requirements into technical execution.
  • Manage external vendors and tools, including selection, contracts, and budget responsibility for the IT function.

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone who combines hands-on technical depth with proven leadership experience:

  • At least 2 years leading tech teams (3+ people) as Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Head of IT, or similar.
  • A solid technical foundation as a developer (ideally 5+ years)—you've built what you now oversee.
  • Cross-disciplinary leadership experience: you've managed not just development, but also data and/or infrastructure teams.
  • Practical experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD pipelines, and modern web/platform architectures.
  • Strong prioritization instincts: you can justify saying no and maintain focus when multiple departments compete for resources.
  • A track record of introducing processes that teams actually follow—without creating bureaucracy.
  • A data-driven working style: you measure before deciding and make outcomes transparent to stakeholders.
  • Communication strength with non-technical audiences: you can explain to sales, marketing, and executives why something takes time—in a way that's understood and accepted.
  • Self-direction and execution capability: you identify what needs doing without waiting for instructions.
  • Very strong German language skills (minimum C1 level) and good English.
  • Experience in fast-growth environments (start-up, scale-up, or agency) is a clear advantage.
  • Familiarity with lead generation, performance marketing, or B2B SaaS is helpful but not required.
