Senior backend engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential legal technology organization in their search for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their engineering team in Ukraine. Our client is building advanced AI-driven solutions that process and analyze speech data at scale for professional services organizations.

This is a remote position based in Ukraine. Candidates must have full professional proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-scale, secure, multi-tenant backend services supporting AI-powered workflows
• Develop cloud-native microservices that integrate with real-time processing systems
• Implement event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing patterns
• Take ownership of projects end-to-end, from design through deployment
• Integrate AI and LLM capabilities into backend services
• Optimize system performance, scalability, and availability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving environment
• Leverage AI-powered development tools to improve engineering velocity

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 7+ years of hands-on backend development experience in high-scale production environments
• Strong proficiency with Python, REST APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
• Proven experience designing and building distributed, cloud-native microservices
• Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing
• Solid understanding of system design, scalability, availability, and performance optimization
• Practical experience using AI-powered development tools
• Ability to work proactively and independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
• Strong communication skills and teamwork abilities

Preferred qualifications:

• Practical experience with AI infrastructure such as RAG, agentic frameworks, or LLM orchestration tools
• Formal education in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
• Experience with large-scale SaaS solutions
• Ability to integrate AI/LLM features into backend services (prompting, embeddings, RAG pipelines, fine-tuning)
