About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology organization building next-generation operational software for live field deployments. Our client is fully indexed on real-world user success—the code you ship runs inside active operations, not benchmarks or demos.

You'll join a lean engineering team working directly with leadership on their operational planning platform. This is a true ownership role: you'll take problems, explore solutions, propose approaches, and iterate based on direct user feedback. Most features touch geospatial data, ML/LLM orchestration, and on-premise deployment constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end features from scoping through production deployment on a geospatial operations platform
  • Build and optimize map-based interfaces and backend services, moving data through tile servers and leveraging PostGIS for intelligent geospatial queries
  • Design and harden ML/LLM workflow orchestration with retry logic, queueing, and long-running job management using LangGraph and LangChain
  • Architect for on-premise and appliance deployment targets with genuine resource constraints, not cloud-native environments
  • Engage directly with end users during field deployments when required
  • Make product decisions about scope and priority without pre-sliced specifications

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Full-stack experience preferred; alternatively, genuinely strong backend engineering capability
  • Proven ability to own features end-to-end: scoping, building, and making informed trade-offs independently
  • Strong Python (FastAPI) and TypeScript proficiency
  • EU citizenship (contractual requirement tied to defense sector work)
  • Comfort operating under ambiguity with shifting priorities driven by deployment timelines
  • Mission-driven mindset, low ego, and resilience under operational pressure
  • First-principles reasoning rather than pattern-matching from previous roles

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with PostGIS or other geospatial data systems
  • Background orchestrating multi-step LLM workflows with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar
  • On-premise or appliance deployment experience beyond cloud-native environments
  • Prior work in defense, government, or dual-use technology sectors
