Staff Engineer, Compute

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Staff Engineer to lead technical direction for compute capacity management and workload placement across a large-scale Kubernetes platform. In this role, you will:

• Define the technical strategy for capacity orchestration across a multi-cloud Kubernetes environment spanning tens of thousands of virtual machines
• Design and build systems that optimize workload scheduling and deployment across regions while balancing capacity constraints, reliability, and performance requirements
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to evolve multi-region and multi-cloud capacity orchestration as the platform continues to scale
• Develop production software in Go to enhance platform capabilities, automation, and operational efficiency
• Leverage data and capacity signals to drive infrastructure decisions, forecast growth, and refine workload placement strategies

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking a senior technical leader with deep expertise in large-scale infrastructure systems:

• Significant experience designing and operating large-scale Kubernetes-based infrastructure or platform systems
• Strong software engineering background with proficiency in Go or comparable systems programming languages
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and understanding of distributed cloud infrastructure
• Strong systems mindset with a passion for solving complex infrastructure, scheduling, and capacity management challenges
• Comfort working with operational data, capacity forecasting, and analytical approaches that inform engineering decisions
• Proven track record of providing technical leadership across teams and influencing architecture without direct management authority
