Staff AI Product Manager, Phoenix Platform

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization seeking a Staff AI Product Manager to join their platform team in Portugal. This is a rare opportunity to own the applied AI infrastructure that powers clinical-grade care experiences at scale.

Our client is building a sophisticated platform that serves as the intelligence layer for AI-driven healthcare products. You'll be working at the frontier of generative AI in a regulated domain where quality, safety, and real-time performance are non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

• Own the applied AI platform roadmap, balancing strategic innovation initiatives with platform maintenance and reliability
• Work hands-on with AI agents, evaluation frameworks, testing harnesses, and observability systems that underpin production care products
• Make critical trade-offs across cost, latency, quality, and build-versus-buy decisions for models and infrastructure
• Scope platform initiatives with Engineering, AI, and Product teams, carefully balancing reusability with product differentiation
• Execute through close iteration with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product, Clinical, and Operations to ensure deliverables drive high-value member experiences
• Maintain quality standards post-launch, including monitoring for model degradation and performance drift in production
• Own safety protocols alongside clinical teams, implementing prevention, detection, and response systems for AI-generated clinical interactions

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years in product management, with recent hands-on ownership of AI-powered products in production
• Significant technical depth in generative AI: You understand how models, prompting, retrieval, and agent architectures actually behave in production, not just in theory
• Real-world experience shipping LLM-based features to users and handling the results: evaluation, annotation, observability, and unexpected failure modes
• Ability to hold your own in technical AI and engineering discussions and trace decisions from architecture to user experience
• Strong voice and judgment to push back when member experience is being compromised, regardless of the source
• Ability to efficiently track state-of-the-art AI developments and bring innovation with sound product and technical judgment
• Clear, concise communication skills that cut through ambiguity—this is essential at our client's scale
• Proficiency using coding agents for debugging, data analysis, production monitoring, tooling, research, and automation
• Experience managing and growing small product teams
• Valid EU visa and Portugal-based (no relocation assistance available)

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with memory systems, guardrails, or multi-agent orchestration
• Voice AI experiences shipped to production
• Building experimentation or evaluation infrastructure from scratch (A/B testing, evals, human annotation pipelines)
• Working knowledge of foundation model training and deployment
• Healthcare or regulated domain experience where accuracy has real consequences
