Lead AI engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential enterprise SaaS organization seeking a Lead AI Engineer to drive artificial intelligence strategy and development within a critical business domain. In this role, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes
• Identify high-value AI opportunities in collaboration with business leaders and define the technical vision and roadmap for your domain (examples include Sales & Marketing or Finance & Legal)
• Design and architect scalable, reliable AI solutions including LLM-based systems, RAG implementations, and AI agents
• Drive architecture decisions and establish technical excellence across AI initiatives
• Work directly with end users to ensure adoption and measure impact
• Promote best practices for evaluation, testing, guardrails, and observability of AI systems
• Mentor AI Engineers and Agent Builders, sharing knowledge and reusable components
• Build AI expertise and capability within the organization
• Review designs and raise the quality bar across cross-functional initiatives

This is a permanent position (CDI) based in Paris or Bordeaux, requiring 4 days on-site per week. The technical stack includes Python and SQL, working with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral and open-source models, LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, MCP, vector databases, and infrastructure on AWS or GCP with Docker and Kubernetes.

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering, ML Engineering, or Applied AI roles
• Strong hands-on experience with large language models, RAG systems, AI agents, evaluation methodologies, and production AI systems
• Proven ability to influence product and business decisions through technical leadership
• Demonstrated leadership on complex cross-functional initiatives
• Deep expertise in Python and SQL
• Experience with modern AI frameworks and infrastructure (LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases)
• Strong understanding of production system requirements including scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Ability to mentor engineers and build team capability
• Experience measuring and demonstrating business impact from AI initiatives
• Excellent collaboration skills across technical and business stakeholders

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: €90,000 – €100,000 annual gross salary. Final compensation will be determined based on your experience, skills, and the specific scope of responsibilities.
