Backend Engineer (Golang) – Bank Balance

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Backend Engineer (Golang) to join their balance management team in Berlin. In this role, you will:

• Build and evolve core banking services that power ledger operations and transactions, transforming regional systems into a unified, scalable global platform
• Tackle complex distributed systems challenges, ensuring resilient services that perform under high transaction volumes
• Support modernization initiatives by improving observability, adding test coverage, refactoring code for long-term maintainability, and introducing new architectural patterns without disrupting live operations
• Contribute to key architectural decisions, building ledger and transaction history systems from the ground up
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Risk, Treasury, Finance, and Infrastructure to ensure smooth, compliant, and reliable global operations
• Take ownership from design to production, running the services you build, monitoring performance, and continuously improving software delivery at scale

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Solid backend experience building reliable, high-volume services with careful attention to system design, APIs, data modeling, and service interactions
• Proficiency in Golang with comfort learning and working with other languages as needed (e.g., Kotlin or Elixir)
• Strong ability to write maintainable, well-tested code following CI/CD best practices
• Experience building, deploying, and running services in cloud environments like AWS using Docker and Kubernetes
• Eagerness to work with relational databases that perform well under load and maintain data consistency
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across regions, communicate clearly, exchange feedback effectively, and make thoughtful technical decisions
• Curiosity for building reliable financial services and banking domain knowledge

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of Elixir for working with legacy services
• Deeper PostgreSQL experience including performance tuning, complex queries, or schema design
• Experience with event streaming platforms (Kafka preferred) and modern observability stacks (Grafana, Honeycomb, etc.)
