About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential management consultancy with a specialized cloud and data engineering practice. Our client serves enterprise organizations across Europe and works at the intersection of data strategy and production systems. We're seeking a Data Engineer to join their high-performing technical team in Germany.

This role offers the chance to work on complex data architectures for prominent clients while being part of an international, agile environment. You'll have ownership over projects from conception through delivery, working with modern cloud platforms and data technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of data engineering projects, from initial scoping through stakeholder alignment to delivery of measurable business outcomes
  • Design and implement data architectures supporting both batch and streaming workloads at various scales
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP to support data platforms
  • Build Python-based ETL/ELT pipelines using orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • Implement and optimize data lake technologies and OLAP data warehouses/lakehouses
  • Model and manage data across SQL and NoSQL databases with focus on performance and cost optimization
  • Develop web APIs using Python frameworks like FastAPI and Flask, documented with OpenAPI/Swagger standards
  • Automate deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code and containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes

What We're Looking For

  • Passionate data engineer with strong engineering craftsmanship who thrives working with modern, AI-driven technology
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred)
  • Experience building production-grade software systems
  • Strong Python development skills with emphasis on idiomatic, well-tested code
  • Expertise in performance tuning and optimization of relational databases through indexing, sharding, and partitioning
  • Practical experience with data workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect)
  • Working knowledge of large-scale data processing and modern analytics stacks (Apache Spark, Snowflake, dbt, or similar)
  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar)
  • Excellent German language skills (C1 level) and conversational English
  • Customer-centric mindset with results-driven approach and willingness to travel occasionally to client sites

Location: Hamburg, München, Düsseldorf, or remote within Germany
