About This Opportunity
We are representing a well-funded European fintech organization that is transforming how businesses manage their financial operations. Our client is building an integrated platform that combines multiple financial services into a seamless digital experience, and they need talented engineers to power the next generation of AI-driven capabilities.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you'll design, build, and operate production AI systems that solve real business problems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on shipping production-grade AI capabilities—from prototype to deployment, evaluation to iteration. You'll work on high-impact initiatives across customer onboarding, support automation, document processing, fraud detection, and internal tooling.
This role is remote-friendly and based in Berlin, with flexibility to work across Europe.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy AI-powered solutions using LLMs, RAG, tool calling, and agentic workflows
- Own AI systems end-to-end: problem definition, architecture, implementation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Partner with product managers, domain experts, and engineering teams to integrate AI into real workflows
- Design quality and evaluation frameworks including offline evals, online metrics, failure analysis, and feedback loops
- Develop scalable inference pipelines with attention to latency, cost, security, and observability
- Work on use cases such as customer care automation, transaction classification, document understanding, knowledge systems, and fraud detection
- Contribute to platform and tooling decisions that improve reusability and consistency across teams
- Challenge assumptions, propose better approaches, and help shape the technical roadmap
- Experiment rapidly, learn from failures, and translate insights into stronger systems
What We're Looking For
Must-Have Skills:
- Proven experience building and deploying AI systems in production environments
- Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with LLM applications including: RAG, tool use, agents, prompt engineering, evaluations, structured outputs, guardrails, or fine-tuning
- Experience integrating AI systems into backend services or product workflows
- Ability to design meaningful evaluation, monitoring, and improvement loops
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized deployments
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to navigate ambiguity
- Active experimentation with new AI models, tools, and patterns—with the judgment to evaluate what's production-ready
- Strong understanding of the evolving AI landscape and ability to turn advances into practical solutions
- Fluent English
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in fintech, financial services, risk, compliance, or operations-heavy environments
- Applied ML experience beyond LLMs: classification, anomaly detection, ranking, document intelligence
- Experience with vector databases, knowledge systems, and retrieval infrastructure
- Experience with model benchmarking, experimentation frameworks, and optimization at scale
- Startup or founder background
- Open-source contributions or visible AI projects
Example Technologies:
You don't need experience with everything, but this role may involve: Python, SQL, OpenAI, Anthropic, LangGraph, Hugging Face, PyTorch, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP/Azure, vector databases, event-driven systems, and observability tooling.
