Data Platform Engineer I

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential energy technology client seeking a Data Platform Engineer I to join their growing platform team in London. This role offers the chance to work on large-scale data infrastructure that supports millions of customer accounts across multiple markets.

Our client is building platforms that process billions of data points daily, from smart meter readings to customer communications analytics. As their data footprint expands globally, they need talented engineers to help build and maintain robust, scalable data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data platform infrastructure and pipelines using software engineering best practices
• Implement and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform/OpenTofu on AWS
• Deploy and orchestrate data services on Kubernetes (EKS)
• Work with CDC systems and PostgreSQL databases to ensure reliable data flows
• Collaborate across teams to scope problems and deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions
• Support data lake storage using Parquet and Delta formats on S3
• Contribute to continuous deployment pipelines and monitoring systems
• Work autonomously and proactively on varied projects within the data platform ecosystem

What We're Looking For

• Passion for writing high-quality code and building lean, efficient processes
• Strong experience with AWS cloud infrastructure
• Proficiency with Terraform or OpenTofu for infrastructure as code
• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and relational databases
• Experience with CDC (Change Data Capture) systems
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, particularly EKS
• Python programming skills
• Docker containerization experience
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus (desirable)
• Experience with data tools like Airflow, Spark, dbt, or Jupyter (desirable)
• Interest or experience in data/network security (nice to have)
• Ability to work autonomously and deliver solutions end-to-end
• Right to work in the UK at time of application (visa sponsorship not available)
