Data Engineering, Consultant

AIA is hiring a Data Engineering Consultant to join our Kuala Lumpur, MY-AIA Malaysia office on a full-time basis. In this role, you'll architect and build scalable data solutions that power analytics, reporting, and operational intelligence across our organisation.

About This Position

As a Data Engineering Consultant at AIA in Kuala Lumpur, you'll take ownership of complex data infrastructure projects, translating business requirements into robust, production-grade systems. This on-site position offers hands-on technical leadership, working with modern data technologies to solve real-world problems at enterprise scale. You'll partner closely with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to shape how AIA harnesses data for competitive advantage.

Core Duties

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes that reliably handle large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
• Build and optimise data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics platforms tailored to business requirements
• Evaluate and recommend data technologies, architectures, and tools to support organisational growth and performance objectives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—data scientists, analysts, and business units—to translate analytical needs into technical implementations
• Perform code reviews, establish engineering standards, and mentor team members on data engineering best practices
• Monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and continuously improve data infrastructure reliability and efficiency

Requirements

• Professional expertise with Python, Scala, Java, or similar languages used in data engineering
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale data pipelines and ETL frameworks
• Strong working knowledge of SQL, relational and non-relational databases, and data warehousing architecture
• Hands-on experience with distributed data processing tools and cloud-based data platforms
• Track record delivering enterprise data solutions in a consulting, technical leadership, or similar capacity
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong collaboration skills across technical and business teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent professional experience in data engineering
