Senior Accountant

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client seeking a Senior Accountant to anchor their accounting function during a pivotal growth phase. This is a remote position requiring deep US GAAP expertise and controllership experience.

Our client's current team handles day-to-day transactions effectively, but they now need a senior-level technical expert to provide accounting judgment, rigorous review capabilities, and control structures during an active audit, major software migration, and process improvement initiatives. This role focuses on technical accuracy and strategic oversight rather than high-volume transactional work.

Responsibilities

• Technical GAAP oversight: Review complex transactions, contract assessments, and financing arrangements; make definitive accounting treatment decisions before they reach audit; act as the critical second line of defense
• Fixed assets and capitalization: Oversee property, plant, and equipment accounting; refine and enforce capitalization policies; manage asset disposals; evaluate impairment considerations; maintain the fixed asset register
• Month-end close leadership: Strengthen accrual methodologies, enforce cut-off procedures, and reduce manual adjustments during close
• Balance sheet reconciliations: Establish elevated reconciliation standards, design stronger review controls, and foster clear account ownership
• Audit management: Prepare detailed audit schedules, reports, and technical documentation for management and external auditors; ensure full US GAAP compliance
• System migration: Document current processes, identify control gaps, redesign workflows, and ensure complex accounting requirements are accurately mapped into new systems
• Risk mitigation: Assess financial risk, investigate discrepancies, and implement improvements to internal controls to prevent errors and fraud

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Proven background as a Senior Accountant, Financial Auditor, or Assistant Controller with deep, hands-on US GAAP expertise and complex capitalization policy experience
• Technical proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; QuickBooks Online experience required; NetSuite experience preferred; familiarity with complex accounting systems and software migrations
• Analytical depth: Exceptional analytical skills with proven ability to interpret complex financial data and apply high-level accounting judgment
• Execution excellence: Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently, manage shifting timelines, and thrive in a fully remote environment
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; capable of educating staff on policies and presenting clear findings to external auditors and leadership
