Global Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a forward-thinking Global Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to design, implement, and scale their global information security strategy. This is a remote leadership role based in Portugal, focused entirely on building and managing the organization's worldwide information security posture as they expand into new regulated markets.

You will be responsible for creating security processes from the ground up, ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and leading a distributed remote team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the security foundation of a growing financial services platform.

Responsibilities

• Define, drive, and execute the global information security roadmap aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
• Build, implement, and optimize robust security processes, frameworks, and policies across the entire organization from scratch
• Oversee the acquisition and maintenance of industry-specific licenses and certifications including SOC 2, PCI-DSS, DORA, and relevant crypto-financial regulations
• Manage regular internal and external security audits, serving as the primary technical point of contact with external auditors and regulators
• Collaborate with legal and data protection teams to ensure information security policies align with European GDPR compliance and data privacy laws
• Work with Managing Directors across multiple international locations to bridge global security frameworks with local regulatory mandates
• Partner with Engineering and Product teams to embed security into the software development lifecycle and ensure secure-by-design architectures
• Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing, fully remote security team while fostering a culture of accountability and proactiveness
• Act as the ultimate escalation point for global security incidents, ensuring proactive threat hunting and rapid mitigation
• Manage oversight of technical risk assessments, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and third-party risk reviews

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• Proven track record in a senior security leadership role (CISO, Director of Security, or Head of Information Security) within Financial Services or FinTech
• Direct experience steering organizations through complex information security audits, certifications, licensing, and international regulatory compliance
• Demonstrated experience creating, implementing, and managing group-level security processes and frameworks from the ground up
• Exceptional leadership skills with proven ability to manage remote, distributed teams
• Strong sense of ownership, proactiveness, and high responsibility
• Fluent English with excellent communication and reporting skills
• Must be physically located and legally authorized to work remotely within Europe, specifically Portugal

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience in cryptocurrency, Web3, or blockchain environments
• Understanding of specific digital asset security vectors including custody solutions and wallet security architectures
• Ukrainian or Russian language proficiency
