RWJBarnabas Health is hiring a full-time Dispatcher for patient transportation services in Somerville, Somerset County, New Jersey. This evening shift position coordinates medical rides that connect patients to their appointments and healthcare facilities with safety, punctuality, and compassionate service at the center of everything you do.

About the Role

Patient Transport Dispatchers form the backbone of coordinated medical transportation, managing real-time communication between drivers, patients, and hospital departments. At RWJUH Somerset, you'll receive transportation requests, assign qualified drivers, monitor trip progress, and maintain schedules that ensure continuity of patient care. The hourly pay range for this position in New Jersey is $16.83 to $20.20 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Your work directly impacts the reliability and punctuality of the healthcare delivery system across Somerset County and the surrounding region.

Your Responsibilities

• Receive, document, and prioritize patient transportation requests, accounting for urgency and medical needs
• Assign drivers to routes using dispatch software, matching available resources to transportation demand
• Track active trips and monitor driver progress in real time using modern communication systems
• Provide route updates and schedule adjustments to drivers, patients, and receiving departments promptly
• Maintain complete records of completed trips, delays, and any incidents occurring during transit
• Coordinate with hospital departments to prioritize time-sensitive and urgent transports
• Support drivers with guidance and assistance during evening shifts
• Uphold patient safety and compliance protocols throughout all transportation operations

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong organizational and multitasking ability to manage multiple concurrent transportation requests
• Excellent written and verbal communication for interacting with patients, drivers, and healthcare staff
• Comfort with computer systems and dispatch software (training is provided)
• Reliable attendance and consistent punctuality for evening shift work
• Ability to remain calm and adaptive when priorities shift or unexpected situations arise
• Basic math skills for managing route times and distances
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Valid New Jersey driver's license preferred
