Principal, Inclusive Cities

HR&A Advisors is seeking a Principal, Inclusive Cities to join our advisory team in New York City, New York. This is a full-time role for a strategic leader passionate about equitable urban development and city policy.

About the Role

The Principal, Inclusive Cities role is a leadership position within our firm's efforts to support cities and metropolitan regions in fostering economically resilient, socially inclusive communities. You will lead advisory engagements, drive thought leadership, and build lasting partnerships with clients across the public, philanthropic, and real estate sectors. This position demands both strategic depth and the ability to translate complex urban challenges into actionable solutions.

What You'll Do

• Direct strategic advisory projects focused on inclusive economic development, urban policy, and quality-of-life initiatives in metropolitan areas
• Partner with city governments, public authorities, and philanthropic institutions to develop evidence-based strategies addressing urban community needs
• Lead research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement to inform policy and investment decisions in the built environment and economic development
• Develop and deliver recommendations on topics spanning housing, workforce development, community benefits, and equitable growth frameworks
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the firm's intellectual leadership through reports, presentations, and thought leadership
• Cultivate and maintain client relationships, identify new opportunities, and support business development efforts

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated expertise in urban policy, city planning, economic development, or a closely related field
• Substantial professional experience in advisory, government, real estate, philanthropy, or nonprofit leadership roles
• Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and ability to synthesize research into clear recommendations
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with comfort engaging senior government and philanthropic stakeholders
• Passion for inclusive growth, racial equity, and building thriving urban communities
• Ability to manage multiple projects, lead teams, and thrive in a collaborative, client-facing environment
