About the Role
The Assistant Manager, Fire Safety works within New York City Transit's Office of System Safety to oversee fire prevention, emergency response protocols, and safety compliance. Based at 2 Broadway in Manhattan, you'll support the Manager, Fire Safety in developing and executing programs that protect passengers, employees, and assets throughout the transit network. This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership of fire safety operations.
What You'll Do
- Assist in managing fire safety programs, inspections, and compliance initiatives across transit facilities
- Support the development and implementation of fire prevention policies and procedures
- Coordinate with other transit departments and safety divisions to ensure integrated emergency response
- Monitor fire safety compliance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Contribute to training programs and safety awareness initiatives for transit staff
- Support incident investigation and corrective action processes
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in fire safety, emergency management, or related safety discipline
- Strong knowledge of fire codes, building safety standards, and transit industry practices
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing or supervising teams
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments in a complex organization
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the transit system as needed
