About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential defense contractor in their search for a Technical Director – Commercial Nuclear based in Danbury, CT. This is a senior technical leadership role focused on the design, development, modernization, and lifecycle support of advanced electronic systems used in commercial nuclear applications. Our client is a trusted provider of critical power and control technology systems, and this position will serve as the technical authority for mission-critical programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead commercial nuclear engineering efforts for complex digital, analog, power, and electronic systems across their full lifecycle
- Direct system design, development, testing, implementation, and lifecycle support for both new products and legacy system modernization
- Serve as the technical authority for customer solutions, proposal development, modernization strategies, and engineering execution
- Translate customer requirements into compliant, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs that meet stringent nuclear industry standards
- Drive technical excellence through cross-functional leadership, supplier collaboration, engineer mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner closely with program management, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer stakeholders to ensure successful program delivery
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field (Master's degree strongly preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including significant time leading complex technical programs and multidisciplinary teams
- Deep expertise in the design and development of electronic systems, including digital, analog, and/or power-related technologies
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional and interdisciplinary engineering teams in a technical leadership capacity
- Demonstrated success providing technical mentorship, project guidance, and strategic direction
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Active DOD security clearance or ability to obtain clearance within a reasonable timeframe after hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing Single Event Upset (SEU)-tolerant systems
- Familiarity with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations, policies, and procedures
- Experience with Commercial Grade Item Dedication (CGID) for nuclear safety applications
- Knowledge of commercial nuclear and/or military specifications and design practices
