Senior Payment Operations Specialist

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is focused on improving how healthcare payments are processed and managed. Our client needs an experienced Senior Payment Operations Specialist to join their team and ensure the accurate, timely execution of complex payment workflows while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and operational excellence.

This is a remote position based in the United States, offering the opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare operations, financial systems, and technology platform development.

Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor all payment processing activities to meet established service level agreements for timeliness and accuracy
• Triage and resolve payment exceptions, including reviewing items in manual review queues
• Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of payment accounts across multiple systems
• Ensure all payment activities adhere to regulatory requirements including NACHA rules, HIPAA requirements, and internal compliance controls
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies across payment gateways, ledgering platforms, and claims processing systems
• Conduct production verification testing following system releases
• Prepare operational reports on payment volumes, exception rates, and reconciliation status for internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with Product and Technology teams to identify platform defects, define operational requirements, and validate system enhancements
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Engineering, and Compliance to resolve escalated payment issues
• Maintain and update standard operating procedures while recommending process improvements
• Provide audit support through documentation and transaction-level detail as needed

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in payment operations, financial services, or healthcare claims/insurance operations
• Proven ability to translate operational challenges into clear requirements for Product and Technology teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated ability to lead root cause investigations and de-escalate high-pressure situations
• Track record of building effective relationships across Finance, Product, Engineering, and Compliance departments
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data validation, macros/VBA, and large dataset management
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency
• Ability to develop training materials and present to cross-functional teams
• Self-directed and proactive approach with demonstrated ownership of outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using AI tools to improve operational workflows, accelerate data analysis, or automate repetitive tasks
• Working knowledge of SQL for querying databases, building reports, and supporting reconciliation workflows
• Experience with Jira, CRM platforms, and operational workflow tools
