Staff Security Operations Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential open-source technology organization in their search for a Staff Security Operations Engineer. This is a remote-anywhere position on a newly formed security team reporting directly to the CISO. We are seeking candidates across a range of experience levels—from exceptional early-career professionals with demonstrated passion for cyber defense to seasoned practitioners with deep experience defending critical assets against advanced persistent threats and state-level actors.

This role offers a unique opportunity to build security operations practices from the ground up, with a mandate that extends beyond internal defense to improving the security posture of the broader open-source ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously evolve security operations standards, playbooks, and technical controls
• Analyze and strengthen the organization's security architecture and infrastructure defenses
• Evaluate, select, and deploy new security tools and defensive practices
• Identify, contain, and orchestrate remediation of security threats and active cyber attacks
• Lead threat modeling exercises, tabletop simulations, and other SecOps practices across engineering and IT teams
• Contribute to and consume threat intelligence feeds; collaborate with the wider security community
• Develop learning materials, publish thought leadership content, and represent the organization at industry events
• Define and track key performance indicators for security operations
• Work within an agile engineering framework to plan and deliver security initiatives
• Partner with security leadership to present findings and drive organizational change

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Exceptional academic record and undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM field, or compelling alternative path
• Demonstrated track record of exceeding expectations and driving results
• Deep personal motivation to work at the forefront of technology security
• Expertise in threat modeling and risk management frameworks
• Knowledge of security architecture principles and leading security tools
• Experience contributing to and consuming threat intelligence feeds
• Experience with security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF
• Familiarity with security standards such as ISO 27001

Highly Valued:

• Experience working in a security operations center (SOC) or security operations team
• Hands-on offensive or defensive security experience
• Experience defending against state-actor and advanced persistent threats
