Sr. Data Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential EdTech client in their search for a Senior Data Engineer based in Brazil. This is a fully remote role working on Brasilia Standard Time as a CLT contract employee.

Our client is part of a global portfolio that has helped content creators and educators earn billions in revenue. As their data needs scale, they're building out a world-class Data Engineering function to support strategic, data-driven decision-making across Product, Engineering, Finance, and business teams.

Reporting to the Head of Data, you'll serve as a senior technical reference—owning architectural decisions, setting standards for data modeling and pipeline development, and partnering with cross-functional teams across Brazil and the United States to deliver reliable, high-impact data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical reference for Data Engineering, establishing data modeling standards and best practices for pipelines at scale
• Lead high-impact data engineering initiatives spanning multiple business domains, translating strategic priorities into robust, scalable data infrastructure
• Partner closely with Product, Finance, Engineering, and business stakeholders to design and deliver data solutions that drive measurable outcomes
• Make informed build-vs-buy decisions to maximize impact and efficiency in product analytics and platform infrastructure
• Manage technical debt proactively while ensuring systems remain scalable, reliable, and maintainable over time

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven experience as a senior data engineer with hands-on ownership of large-scale data pipelines and complex data architectures
• Strong technical judgment, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset
• Deep understanding of modern data engineering best practices including data lakes, lakehouse architectures, and ETL/ELT patterns
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native data platforms on AWS (orchestration, storage, compute, IAM) with the ability to work across multiple services
• Strong proficiency with orchestration and workflow tools such as Airflow
• Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code principles and tools (e.g., Terraform) to enable repeatable, auditable environments
• Experience building and operating both batch and streaming data systems, with the ability to make informed trade-offs between approaches (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a distributed, international environment

Nice to have:

• Experience with data platform tooling such as DBT and metadata/catalog tools
• Familiarity with eventing and integration tools like DMS, AppFlow, SQS/SNS
• Knowledge of architectural patterns including Data Mesh and domain-driven data design
• Track record delivering production-grade software systems with strong engineering rigor

Pay

Compensation will be provided in BRL under a CLT contract. Specific pay details will be discussed during the screening process based on experience and qualifications.
