Software Engineer, Platform – Munich, Germany

We are representing a confidential text-to-speech technology company seeking a Software Engineer, Platform to join their distributed team. This role is based in Munich, Germany.

Responsibilities

The Platform team owns the backend systems that power multiple client applications serving tens of millions of users. You will work on critical infrastructure including payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, analytics, and public APIs.

• Design, build, and own APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and public-facing services
• Take ownership of existing services and improve their performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability
• Ensure correctness of changes before deployment and implement ongoing validation systems
• Automate operational tasks to reduce manual overhead and free up capacity for higher-impact work
• Create reusable patterns and documentation that enable the entire team to scale
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for external customers building on the platform
• Collaborate with product and client engineering teams to ensure backend architecture supports product roadmap

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone with strong backend engineering experience who can take ownership of complex systems and make them simpler over time.

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node.js (required)
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud provider
• Track record of delegating work you previously owned and demonstrating the value created by that delegation
• Active use of AI agents in your daily workflow—you should be able to describe what runs unattended, what you review, and where human oversight is required
• Strong debugging instincts: ability to verify results against actual system state (logs, database, requests) rather than summaries
• Sound judgment about what not to build and clear communication about technical trade-offs
• Preference for being corrected over being right
• Preferred: Docker and containerized deployment experience
• Preferred: Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes
