We are representing a confidential enterprise software organization in their search for a Senior Design Engineer to lead the development of their AI-powered design operations platform. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of design, engineering, and product, where you'll build the internal tooling, automation, and infrastructure that enables a design organization to move fast while maintaining consistency and quality.
In this role, you will:
- Design and build internal tools and automations with strong UX using TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, and APIs, ensuring the design team's tooling is genuinely usable
- Engineer and maintain agent pipelines, including MCP servers, context pipelines, and integrations that connect the design system to AI coding agents
- Automate governance through CI checks, release automation, and policy enforcement that function as guardrails in the pipeline
- Own and govern the AI tool stack by evaluating, integrating, and rolling out tools while partnering with security and legal on data and IP review
- Build telemetry and dashboards to measure design-system adoption, AI-tool usage, cycle time, and quality metrics
- Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to evolve the design system and surrounding workflows
- Develop prompt and template infrastructure to ensure consistent AI-assisted quality across the organization
- Set tooling and operations standards, lead platform initiatives, and mentor team members
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- 5–8 years of experience in design engineering, front-end development, design-systems tooling, or platform/internal-tools engineering with genuine design and UX sensibility
- Strong UX instincts with the ability to design usable tools and translate ambiguous needs into thoughtful solutions
- Solid foundation in HTML/CSS and front-end craft
- Strong engineering skills, comfortable building tools and automations in TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python
- Experience working with APIs, CI/CD, and integrations
- Working knowledge of Figma at an organizational level, including its plugin and REST APIs
- Proven track record of measurably improving team workflows through tooling and automation
- Hands-on fluency with AI tooling and a thoughtful approach to governing its use
- Strong product mindset with bias toward ownership and senior-level communication skills
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience building or operating MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or similar AI integration infrastructure
- Experience implementing AI tool governance at organizational scale (access, licensing, security/IP review, usage policy)
- Familiarity with design tokens and Code Connect, including Angular/TypeScript and CSS custom properties
- Experience building dashboards and telemetry for tooling adoption and impact measurement
- Background supporting design in complex B2B, enterprise, or data-heavy environments
