Responsibilities
Our talent team is representing a confidential government research organization working at the intersection of AI security and national capability assessment. In this role, you will build the technical infrastructure that enables rigorous evaluation of cutting-edge AI systems in cybersecurity and autonomous operations.
Your core responsibilities include:
- Build evaluation infrastructure: Develop systems and code that make cyber and autonomy evaluations possible at scale
- Develop analysis tooling: Turn raw results into insights, including LLM-as-a-judge and other analysis workflows
- Lead testing exercises: Identify key research questions, run evaluations to collect evidence, analyze results, and communicate findings and recommendations
- Deliver engineering work: Own technical projects and shared components from design through implementation, iteration, and maintenance
- Write production-quality code: Build scalable, robust, maintainable Python software with strong testing, documentation, and observability practices
Example projects you might work on include onboarding cyber ranges on evaluation infrastructure, building image pipelines that convert infrastructure-as-code into deployable assets, developing more secure sandbox services, and preparing data for publication. You'll work alongside engineers and researchers focused on real-world impact, operating with significant autonomy and technical ownership.

We're seeking exceptional Software Engineers at all experience levels who want to work at the forefront of AI security research. Successful candidates will meet many of the following criteria:
Essential:
- Experience delivering and maintaining production-quality software
- Deep Python experience, with a clear view of what good Python looks like and broad familiarity with the wider ecosystem and tooling
- Experience designing and evolving software systems or technical architecture
- Strong interest in helping to improve the safety of AI systems
- Ability to take ownership of ambiguous, technically hard problems and follow through
- Clear communication skills and ability to raise engineering standards through feedback and mentoring
Desirable:
- Cybersecurity or adversarial-security expertise
- Experience building, operating, or analyzing AI evaluations
- Experience building, deploying, and operating production systems using DevOps practices
- Familiarity with AI misuse and loss-of-control threat models
The role is based in London with hybrid working arrangements. Strong preference for candidates eligible for UK counter-terrorist check (CTC) clearance, though candidates from any nationality are encouraged to apply.
