What This Role Involves

As a Social Worker with the Department of Health and Wellness, you'll provide psychosocial assessment, counselling, and support services to patients, families, and communities across the Oudtshoorn and wider Eden region. This role sits at the intersection of healthcare and social support, helping individuals navigate complex life challenges while accessing vital services and resources.

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients and families
• Provide individual and group counselling services to support mental health and wellbeing
• Coordinate with healthcare teams to ensure holistic patient care within Oudtshoorn facilities
• Advocate for vulnerable populations and connect clients with community resources and support programmes
• Conduct home visits and community outreach to engage families and assess social circumstances
• Document and maintain accurate case files and progress notes in compliance with departmental standards
• Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings
• Support crisis intervention and trauma response initiatives in the community

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification recognised in South Africa
• Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
• Valid South African identity document or travel document
• Competence in English (written and verbal)
• Knowledge of South African social welfare and healthcare legislation
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
