Senior/Staff/Principal Engineer

Our talent team is representing a confidential open-source software organization in a search for Senior, Staff, and Principal Engineers. This is a fully remote role open to candidates worldwide. We are looking for exceptional technical leaders who can architect high-impact systems, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to cutting-edge distributed software projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design decisions for significant open-source projects
• Write production-quality code in Go, Rust, Python, C/C++, or TypeScript/React
• Provide technical leadership and direction across engineering teams
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers in their career growth
• Collaborate with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones
• Debug complex technical issues and deliver robust solutions
• Contribute to and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
• Engage with open-source communities and drive community contribution
• Participate in bi-annual team gatherings (travel required)

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Outstanding academic credentials from high school and university, or compelling alternative background
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM field, or equivalent experience
• Proven track record of exceeding expectations and delivering high-impact results
• Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to motivate and guide teams
• Deep expertise in at least one of: Go, Rust, Python, or C
• Strong focus on code quality, performance optimization, and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Strong interpersonal skills with curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
• Ability to travel internationally twice per year for up to two weeks each

Preferred experience (depending on team placement):

• Container technologies: LXD, Docker, Kubernetes
• Highly concurrent and distributed system architectures
• Performance engineering from kernel to web layer
• Software security practices including fuzzing and threat modeling
• Build systems, toolchains, and cross-compilation
• Public cloud platforms or OpenStack
• Debian/Ubuntu packaging systems
• Systems programming or scalable web service development
• Quality engineering and comprehensive testing strategies
• Front-end development with web technologies or Flutter
• REST and gRPC API design and implementation
• SQL and NoSQL database systems

Pay

Compensation for this role will be discussed during the screening process and is based on geographic location, experience level, and performance. Our client offers competitive base salary plus performance-driven annual bonus, personal development budget of $2,000 USD annually, comprehensive benefits, and twice-yearly international team events.
