Senior/Staff Golang Engineer (EMEA)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential client in the API infrastructure space. They are building an advanced open-source GraphQL federation platform, and we're seeking a Senior or Staff-level Golang Engineer to join their EMEA-based engineering team.

This is a fully remote position within the EMEA region, with occasional travel for team collaboration (at least twice yearly). You'll work within CET time zone hours.

Responsibilities

You will develop, refactor, and maintain a high-performance GraphQL router written entirely in Go. This router serves as the core component of a federation solution, handling request/response cycles while implementing complex federation protocols, normalization, and execution planning.

• Write performant, low-GC Golang code for critical routing infrastructure
• Collaborate with engineering teammates on new router capabilities and data source integrations
• Work with ASTs and AST transformations to build compiler/transpiler functionality that translates GraphQL into multiple protocols (OpenAPI, SOAP, gRPC)
• Focus on performance optimization, security hardening, and stability improvements
• Review router telemetry data to identify optimization opportunities
• Conduct internal penetration testing and security assessments
• Troubleshoot complex router issues, potentially alongside customer engineering teams
• Analyze and review open-source contributions on GitHub
• Implement native Go-based data sources and improve batching implementations

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Senior or Staff-level proven Golang development experience in a leading or ownership role
• Self-starter who works independently with clear prioritization—no hand-holding needed
• Demonstrated ability to dig into hard problems and deliver robust solutions independently
• Experience working with ASTs and AST transformations
• Proficiency writing performant, low-GC Golang code with knowledge of Go benchmarking techniques
• Ability to thrive in a fully remote work environment
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Willingness to travel occasionally for in-person team meetings
• Ability to work within CET time zone

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with GraphQL, API gateways, proxies, or networking
• Familiarity with OpenAPI, SOAP, gRPC, or Apollo Federation
• Existing open-source contributions

Note: Some tasks will require deep, sustained focus over multiple weeks. Ideal candidates prefer going deep on single topics rather than shallow across many areas.
