Senior Software Engineer, Add-Ons

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential open-source software organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their extension ecosystem team. In this role, you will build and maintain the infrastructure that powers automated moderation pipelines, developer tools, and reviewer systems serving millions of users worldwide.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Delivering major features and architectural improvements across the full stack, including automated moderation systems, reviewer tooling, and developer portal functionality
• Establishing and maintaining engineering standards covering code review practices, production readiness criteria, incident response protocols, and infrastructure-as-code approaches
• Creating robust observability systems with actionable metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
• Building and improving CI/CD pipelines using declarative, pipeline-as-code methodologies that make changes reproducible and reviewable
• Working within Python/Django backend systems, MySQL databases, React/TypeScript frontends, and asynchronous job processing architectures
• Developing internal developer platforms and tooling that enable teams to ship and operate software safely and consistently
• Writing clear technical documentation including design notes, Architecture Decision Records, runbooks, and incident postmortems
• Tracing requests and asynchronous jobs end-to-end across unfamiliar codebases to understand failures and identify improvement opportunities
• Collaborating with designers, product managers, QA engineers, and community contributors to deliver complete solutions
• Participating in on-call rotations, deployments, monitoring, and incident response
• Contributing to open-source projects through pull requests, code reviews, and public discussions
• Providing peer feedback, sharing knowledge, and mentoring team members

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications with Python and Django
• Demonstrated experience operating and improving production software systems where reliability and safe delivery are critical
• Proven experience with CI/CD systems and treating pipelines and infrastructure declaratively as code
• Experience designing or improving automated testing and deployment workflows, including integration testing and progressive delivery strategies
• Deep understanding of observability as an engineering discipline, including metrics, logging, tracing, service-level objectives, and actionable alerting
• Experience building or maintaining internal tools or platforms used by other engineering teams, with recognition that internal systems have users and lifecycle considerations
• Track record of defining or improving engineering practices such as code review standards, operational readiness requirements, runbooks, incident response procedures, and on-call expectations
• Ability to read unfamiliar codebases and trace application behavior across frontend, backend, asynchronous jobs, data stores, and infrastructure layers
• Experience debugging complex production issues and transforming learnings into lasting system improvements
• Strong technical writing skills, with examples of design documents, ADRs, runbooks, and incident reports
• Experience working iteratively with visible backlogs, regular stakeholder feedback, and retrospectives that drive concrete improvements
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills in distributed team environments
• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor peers in operational and reliability practices

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and operating Kubernetes clusters
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling and policy-as-code frameworks
• Experience establishing SLOs and error-budget-based reliability practices
• Background in chaos engineering, disaster recovery testing, or production readiness reviews
• Experience with trust and safety systems, automated moderation, abuse prevention, or adversarial environments
• Active contributions to open-source projects
