About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Risk Manager to join their team in London. Our client is experiencing significant growth and needs an experienced risk professional to strengthen their second line of defense capabilities and embed a comprehensive risk management framework across the organization.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Align the organization's risk management approach with strategic objectives and risk appetite
- Facilitate and maintain Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), ensuring appropriate oversight of risk identification, assessment, and treatment
- Perform independent second line assurance through controls testing and thematic reviews
- Identify control environment gaps and collaborate with first line teams on remediation plans, tracking progress through governance structures
- Deliver top-down risk assessments by engaging senior management and subject matter experts to identify material exposures
- Maintain legal entity risk registers and oversee thematic registers including fraud, market abuse, and financial crime assessments
- Participate in capital adequacy processes, ensuring all relevant risks are captured, quantified, and appropriately stressed
- Provide oversight of risk events, working with colleagues to understand root causes and implement corrective actions
- Deliver transparent risk governance reporting to senior stakeholders
- Lead risk projects to develop and enhance the risk management framework
- Review and challenge trading risk exposures
- Implement horizon scanning processes to identify emerging risks
- Conduct second line risk reviews for new products, features, and strategic initiatives
- Support development of qualitative and quantitative risk appetite measures
- Prepare and present risk reports and assessments to governance bodies
- Foster a healthy risk culture promoting transparency and universal responsibility
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive knowledge of risk management principles and practices in financial services
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
- High attention to detail and advanced risk assessment skills
- Effective communication and leadership capabilities
- Deep understanding of FCA's MiFIDPRU framework, wind-down planning, and operational resilience requirements
- Expertise in financial management, particularly capital and liquidity management
- Experience managing and understanding market risk, preferably in a retail client environment
- Proven ability to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies
- Proficiency in risk management software and tools
- Outsourcing and third-party risk management experience (desirable)
