Senior Mechanical Engineer, Data Centers – Remote (U.S.)

We are representing a confidential infrastructure consulting firm seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in data center and mission critical environments. This is a remote position available across the United States, with occasional travel for client meetings and project milestones.

You'll work on high-profile, fast-paced initiatives for enterprise clients in the tech sector, collaborating with international teams on cutting-edge facilities. Responsibilities

• Design heat rejection and HVAC systems for large-scale data centers, addressing cooling loads, airflow management, humidity control, redundancy, energy efficiency, and phased construction requirements
• Select and specify cooling systems including fan walls, computer room air handlers, chilled water systems, DX systems, in-row cooling, and containment solutions based on equipment criticality and cooling demands
• Conduct internal and external Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimize airflow distribution, identify thermal hotspots, analyze transient conditions, and evaluate campus-wide mechanical interactions
• Engineer redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems with backup cooling, automatic switchover mechanisms, and monitoring systems to ensure continuous uptime
• Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning to support current IT equipment densities and future expansion phases, including administrative and common facility areas
• Implement energy-efficient design strategies such as economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery systems, and optimized airflow management
• Design air quality and filtration systems to maintain optimal conditions and protect sensitive IT infrastructure
• Coordinate mechanical systems integration with electrical, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other critical infrastructure teams

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience (Master's degree preferred)
• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
• Hands-on experience with data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation
• Knowledge of Uptime Institute TER Standard Topology, TIA-942, and ANSI/BICSI 002 standards strongly preferred
• Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or LEED accreditation are advantageous
• Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States; permanent residency sponsorship available for current H-1B visa holders
