Senior Java Fullstack Developer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential public-sector organization in Germany seeking a Senior Java Fullstack Developer to support a large-scale project within government tax administration systems. You will design and implement business processes that coordinate workflows across multiple specialized applications.

Your responsibilities include:

• Concepting, modeling, and implementing business processes using BPMN and Camunda workflow engine, from requirements gathering through technical delivery
• Developing and enhancing high-performance backend components using Java (17/21) and Spring Boot to support complex, cross-system business processes
• Designing and implementing interfaces (REST, SOAP, messaging) and coordinating with adjacent systems and teams
• Creating technical solution designs for cross-system process flows and integrating them into existing architectures
• Actively participating in the transformation and processing of large data volumes within distributed system landscapes
• Coordinating with project stakeholders in remote formats, with occasional on-site meetings (approximately once monthly in Kaarst)
• Creating, executing, and documenting developer and integration tests to ensure software quality
• Maintaining, supporting, and continuously optimizing existing software components in production
• Producing technical documentation including interface specifications, installation guides, and operational handbooks

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience developing backend applications with Java, plus strong knowledge of modern frameworks including Spring and Spring Boot
• Extensive experience developing distributed systems and microservice architectures, with confident use of interface technologies (REST, SOAP, messaging)
• Practical experience with BPMN and workflow engines (especially Camunda), plus solid understanding of business process modeling
• Strong knowledge working with databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA
• Experience working with Linux systems and basic shell scripting skills
• Confident use of common development and collaboration tools (Git, Jenkins, Gradle, Jira, Confluence)
• Structured, solution-oriented working style and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
• Experience in the public sector or within large, distributed IT system landscapes is advantageous
• Excellent German language skills in writing and speaking (C1 level required)
